Join Dr. Ashley Oliphant and her mother Beth Yarbrough as they talk about how they discovered that the New Orleans pirate Jean Laffite faked his death in the 1820s and ultimately came to North Carolina under an assumed name. A lively mother/daughter research team from Lincolnton, NC, Oliphant and Yarbrough will walk the audience through the two-year research adventure that took them to archival libraries, historical societies, museums and Freemason lodges in seven states in order to solve their case. Small Carolinas towns have secrets, and it turns out that Lincolnton, NC, had some serious hidden treasure that needed a tenacious pair of women to unearth.
