Project 2020
Presented by O. Jennifer Dixon-McKnight, Ph.D., Women's and Gender History,
Assistant Professor, Winthrop University

Most often we don't recognize a moment as historic until several years after. The year 2020 will go down in history for a number of reasons such as the coronavirus global pandemic, the 2020 election, moments of social unrest, the vaccine debate, etc. Project 2020 is an Oral History Project that focuses on gathering the stories of our local community and all the ways in which their lives were impacted during the year 2020. It is an opportunity for us to speak to our experiences firsthand and for that information to offer valuable insight into this critical moment in our nation's history for the public and scholars alike. We have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to interview members of the Sun City Community since September 2021. We are excited to share some of what we have learned. imgAbout our presenter
Dr. Dixon-McKnight is an assistant professor of History and African American Studies at Winthrop University. Her research interests include African-American History, Oral History, United States History, and Women's and Gender History, with a particular focus on examining social movements forged by African-American women. Dr. Dixon-McKnight is currently working on a manuscript that explores the 1969 Charleston hospital workers campaign and the hundreds of African-American working-class women at the center of the movement.

She and her husband, Edward McKnight, a retired Navy Chief, are parents to four children and grandparents to a sweet four year old. They have been living in Rock Hill since 2018 and stay busy between work, volleyball practice with the youngest, and cheering for their favorite teams: the Tar Heels and the Panthers.
